ทดลองเล่นฟรี 500 Comic Ideas

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Right now I’m nursing a healthy opiate withdrawal, so I feel like absolute shit and I don’t feel like doing anything. Watching American Splendor is making me feel a bit better, though.

Anyways, a few new comic ideas have popped up in my head over the past few weeks, stuff I’d love to spend a few one-shots on later on down the road.

* A manga version of WW2 Japanese war crimes, only this time characters are replaced with anime school girls, kaiju monsters and other Japanese pop-culture creations. Example: Kempeitai (the Japanese equivilent of the SS) are made up Super Sentai members.
* And just to be fair, stories of the Iraq deal done up in Sgt. Rock/Sgt. Fury style.
* A story about the offline lives of Irish internet nerds entitled IRL.

ทดลองเล่นฟรี 500 Late Friday Comic

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Friday’s comic will be up, albiet a little late. I mean, it will appear ON Friday, but I don’t know at what time. I mean, 11:59PM still counts as “Friday”, don’t it? :3

Perfect Bound vs. Handmade Books

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I’ve been investigating different printing options for me, and I’m probably gonna end up taking the print-on-demand route. This’ll actually make things a lot easier for me, and I can get like 100 copies done up for a reasonable price (versus a minimum order of 1,000 for $3000 from some big name printer). It’ll definately drive down costs for me, and maybe even allow me to sell them for cheaper than $10 a copy.

With this in mind, my handmade books may or may not have a future. If only because time (and the lack of it) is a big deal for me, and making handmade copies takes out a lot of time and effort that I could spend doing other things. However, I think a lot of buyers at the conventions I’ve sold books at were supremely impressed with the fact that I handmade them, many going so far as claiming that it was hardcore…. and I gotta admit, hearing people saying “that’s hardcore” is a narcotic, enough for me to keep making handmade copies.

I was thinking that I probably should sell both at conventions; the perfect bound version will probably be $8 while the handmade version will probably be $16. My question is… do you think it’ll be worth paying a premium for the handmade copy?

Fucking sonovabitch…

Normally I do all my comic work on my old Power Mac G3. It may be old, but it’s good enough for what I need. This time though I decided to do it on a two year old PC laptop. Normally it takes me one hour to scan in a comic and finalize it for the web. For some reason it took me four hours to do the same shit on this PC laptop. It’s 9AM now and I didn’t get any sleep!! (Well, I did doze off while it took the dame thing 10 minutes to save.)

I know I know I’m sure it’s not Windows’ fault and stuff. But you can’t imagine how pissed off I am with how long it took me to make this damn page, and it’s not even finished (the last two frames are supposed to be tan). THIS combined with my lack of sleep just makes me want to toss this piece of shit laptop out the fucking window!!! FOUR fucking hours, man! FOUR HOURS!!! Three of them I could have spent sleeping, but NOOOOOOO!!!! FUCCCCCKKKKK!!!

EDIT: OK, a deletion of some Photoshop temp files and one hard drive defrag later and Photoshop and the laptop are working fine and dandy. (And as you’ll notice, the last two frames are finally tanned.) Fine by me!

( APAture: A Window on the Art of Young Asian Pacific Americans )

Anyone here in and around the San Francisco Bay Area? APAture is an art show just for Asian/Pacific-American artists, like me. Apparently it’s this eleven-day art show, and each day has a different theme to it. Like one day it’s all musicians, another day is for photographers, and so forth. Now I got myself a table at APAture this year, namely on the Zine & Comics Artists day. Here’s the information on it:

Comix, Zines & Design Expo
KSW’s space180, 12 – 6pm
180 Capp St, 3rd Floor, @ Capp Street, SF
(Unfortunately, as of this post, that link doesn’t work.)

I’ll be there for most of the whole day, so feel free to come by if you’re in the neighborhood. :)
